Karl Hasenöhrl

Onkel Karl was my favourite uncle.  He and Tante Lore were my, and my brother Ralph's, second parents.  Karl's brother Hans is my dad.  Hans sadly passed away only 7 months before Karl.  My dad always spoke very highly of his brother Karl. Onkel Karl was such a fun, loving, generous, and caring mentor to my brother and I.  I never really thought of him as a distant overseas Onkel, but as a very close family member who loved us like we were his own children.

Growing up, the highlight of our Christmas holiday every year was the treasured package that would come in the mail from Onkel Karl and Tante Lore.  We were always allowed to open these special gifts on Christmas Eve and it was such a treat!  Only the best of the best from our Onkel Karl!

My children, Benjamin, Samantha, and Daniel, were fortunate enough to meet my Onkel Karl when we travelled to Scharnhausen with my dad for Karl's 80th birthday.  Karl was his usual jovial self, always smiling and loving everyone's company.  It was a very special opportunity to us to be in his home, the same home that my brother Ralph and I spent so many of our childhood vacations.  

Onkel Karl, I will miss you so very much.  Although we did not see each other often in day to day life, you have always been a loving mentor and parent to me.  

My children cherished the opportunity to meet you and see the man that helped shaped me.  

Rest in peace Onkel Karl.  May you and my dad find each other and feel peace and comfort in knowing that we all love you so very much.
